The University of North Carolina at Greensboro welcomes your candidacy for merit scholarships. Please read the instructions and scholarship information before completing the application.
The Merit Awards Program recognizes and encourages exceptional academic ability and talent. The winners are among the most outstanding students at UNCG and their achievements enrich and enhance the University. More than forty renewable scholarships (ranging from $2,500 to full tuition, fees, room and board) are offered annually to entering freshmen. Only current high school seniors are eligible to apply for these select scholarships. You must have a complete UNCG admissions file by January 4, 2008 in order to apply. Merit Scholars are chosen primarily on the basis of superior scholastic and personal achievement and potential. Successful candidates generally present a minimum SAT I score of 1200 (combined math and critical reading) or an ACT score of 27, and a minimum high school GPA of 3.5.
Awards are renewable for up to four years of undergraduate study. Merit Scholars must uphold the academic standards set for the awards (and satisfactory performance in an area of study, for awards restricted by discipline) in order for the awards to be renewed.
The Dean’s Scholars Program, a component of the Merit Awards Program, offers incoming first-year students four-year renewable scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $3,000. This program emphasizes academic achievement and is available to students in specific majors, such as Nursing, Education, Chemistry, Religious Studies, majors within the Bryan School of Business & Economics, and majors within the School of Human Environmental Science. Dean’s Scholars awards are renewable for up to four years of undergraduate study, as long as the student maintains a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75 and remains in good academic standing with the University. To apply, current high school seniors must complete a Merit Awards Program application. The minimum criteria for applicants are: a minimum 1100 SAT (combined critical reading and math sections) or 24 ACT, and a minimum cumulative high school GPA of 3.5. The individual scholarships in the Dean’s Scholars Program are listed in the academic departments that offer them and within the scholarship listing for the Merit Awards Program.
