Unless otherwise indicated, information about School of Education scholarship funds can be obtained by contacting the Student Advising & Recruitment Center (SARC), (336) 334-3410. Program applications are available January 1st. The deadline for submitting both the program application and a FAFSA is February 15th.


Fund Eligible Students
J. Barnwell & Mary Blair Allison Scholarship
Awarded to students majoring in Education.  Recipients must maintain a minimum cumulative 2.5 GPA.  

Arc Greensboro Special Education Scholarship
Awarded to full-time undergraduate or graduate students enrolled in the licensure programs for special education teachers.  Recipients must agree in writing to a service requirement, to be detailed and tracked by the Department of Specialized Education Services.  Please contact the Department of Specialized Education Services for additional information about this scholarship.  

David G. & Nancy J. Armstrong Graduate Students' Scholarship In Education
Awarded to graduate students enrolled in advanced degree programs in the School of Education

Barbara Davis Berryhill And Leigh Berryhill Scholarship

Awarded to students who are planning to become teachers.  Recipients will be students who have demonstrated a commitment to teach, excellence in the classroom, and leadership skills.  Scholarship is renewable with a 2.75 cumulative GPA.

Joann F. And William F. Black Adult Student Scholarship

Award to non-traditional, adult undergraduate students in the School of Education.

Lucille Browne Scholarship In Counseling
Awarded to students training to become school guidance counselors through the Department of Counseling and Educational Development.  Award may be renewable.

Patsy Brinson & John W. Burwell Adult Student Scholarship

Awarded to non-traditional, adult students enrolled in undergraduate programs in the School of Education who wish to teach in K-12 schools.  

Joanne Kiser Caldwell '59 Teacher Education Scholarship

Awarded to students majoring in a field of study within the School of Education.  Preference will be given to graduate students.

Eloise Woosley Cates Scholarship
Awarded to students in the School of Education who demonstrate a commitment to teach, excellence in the classroom and leadership skills or potential.

Harlan S. Cato Scholarship
Awarded to students enrolled in deaf and hard-of-hearing-related programs offered by the department of Specialized Education Services.  Award may be renewable provided recipients maintain high academic standing.

Oliver Perry & Betty Carol Clutts Scholarship
Awarded on the basis of academic achievement to students majoring in History and/or Education.

Gail Broadway Curry Scholarship

Awarded on the basis of academic achivement to juniors or seniors who plan to teach science, with a preference given to female students born in and residing in NC.  There is a further preference for those planning to teach biology.

Elizabeth Langford Davenport Scholarship

Awarded primarily on the basis of academic achievement to undergraduate, NC residents who have an interest in pursuing a course of study in the field of education.  Financial need will also be a consideration.    

Katherine Smith Deberry And Cornelia Marshall Deberry Scholarship

Awarded to students who intend to pursue careers in teaching elementary education.

Awarded to students majoring in the School of Education.

Awarded to students in the School of Education.

Jerome And Harriett Evenson Scholarship

Awarded to an entering undergraduate student with financial need who has the intention of becoming an Education major.  Preference will be given to students from New Hanover County.

Julius I. Foust Scholarship

Awarded on the basis of financial need to a rising senior who is committed to a career in teaching.

Marian Franklin Counseling Fellowship
Awarded to graduate students majoring in Counseling and Educational Development.

Marian Franklin Scholarship

Awarded to students enrolled in any program within the School of Education who are preparing for a career in education at the elementary, middle or high school levels.

Margaret & James Freeze Scholarship

Awarded to a third year student who is a NC resident who is preparing for a career in teaching.

Naomi Lee, Mary Joanna, And Mary Hester Livingston Gibson Scholarship

Awarded on the basis of academic achievement and financial need to juniors and seniors majoring in Education.

Tha Foundation Scholarship In Elementary Education

Awarded to students who are committed to teaching at the elementary school level.  Recipients must be enrolled full-time, must be U.S. citizens and must maintain a minimum cumulative 2.5 GPA.

John Van Hoose Family Scholarship

Awarded to graduate students in the School of Education.

Helena Gabriel Houston Scholarship

Awarded to students in the School of Education.  Scholarship may be renewable.

Eugenia Hunter-Curry School Scholarship
Awarded to students in the School of Education.   

Mary Alford Hunter Scholarship
Awarded to students in the School of Education.

Adelaide Love Israel Scholarship

Awarded on the basis of financial need to undergraduate students pursuing a career in the field of education.

Mary Frances Johnson Scholarship

Awarded to students in the department of Library & Information Studies.

Celia Gomedela Jolley & David Styles Jolley Scholarship

Awarded to students majoring in the School of Education.

Ron & Linda Jones Scholarship For Excellence In Teaching

Awarded on the basis of academic achievement to students enrolled in the School of Education who are committed to becoming either primary or secondary education teachers in NC public schools.  Recipients must have a mimimum 3.0 cumulative GPA.  Award may be renewable for one additional year.

Anna M. Kreimeier Scholarship

Awarded on the basis of financial need to students in the School of Education, preferably to juniors or seniors who plan to pursue a career in teaching.

Michael M. Lombardo Fellowship

Awarded to students enrolled in a program in the School of Education leading to an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership.  Recipients should be full-time and involved in research related to business and/or industry.  The award may be renewed.   

Jo Ann And Mollie Mcallister Scholarship

Awarded to degree-seeking adult students who are interested in teaching.

Margaret F. Mckenzie Scholarship

Awarded to students in the School of Education, with preference given to students from Hoke or Scotland counties.

John Onslow & Kate Dalton Mcnairy Memorial Scholarship

Awarded to students in the School of Education.

Middle School Leadership Scholarship
Awarded to students majoring in a field of study within the School of Education.  First preference will be given to a student from Mecklenburg County.

Dr. Marilyn L. Miller Scholarship

Awarded to students who are enrolled in a degree program in the department of Library & Information Studies.

Monroe/Cox Scholarship

Awarded on the basis of academic achievement and financial need to students in the School of Education who plan to teach.  Recipients must be residents of NC.

Pauline Fields Myrick Scholarship

Awarded on the basis of financial need and academic achievement to juniors or seniors from Moore County, NC who are enrolled full-time in a degree program leading to certification in teaching.  Recipients must have a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA and should be committed to teaching in NC public schools for a minimum of 5 years following graduation.  Award is renewable for one additional year provided recipient is in good standing with the University and the School of Education.  

Don & Mary Olson Scholarship In Reading Education

Awarded to part-time MA degree candidates in Reading Education.  Recipients must be within 12 credit hours of graduation to be eligible.

M. Sangster Parrott Library Scholarship

Awarded to graduate students entering the Masters of Library & Information Studies program.

Mollie Anne Peterson Scholarship
Awarded to female students in the School of Education who plan to teach.

Esther Cobb Pinnix Alpha Delta Kappa Teachers Scholarship

Awarded to a public school teacher, teaching in Rockingham County, who is enrolled at UNCG to pursue additional education or an advanced degree to further his/her teaching career.  Award is made with consideration given to commitment to the teaching field, commitment to teaching in Rockingham County public schools, commitment to professional development, academic performance and financial need.  If no recipient is available from Rockingham County, individuals teaching in Wayne County public schools can be considered.

Imogene & William Purkey Educational Development Scholarship
Awarded to a School of Education major.  Preference for financial need.

Ethel & David Reilly Scholarship In Special Education
Awarded to students majoring in Special Education.

Rph Class Of '47 Scholarship
Awarded to education majors from Hendersonville, NC or Polk County, NC.  If no student meets both the geographic and Education major preference, the scholarship may be awarded to any students from Hendersonville, NC or Polk County, NC, pursuing any degree.  

Mary Ellen Lay "Mel" Schumaker Memorial Scholarship
Awarded to undergraduate students with a major in the School of Education.

Luther Winborne Self Fellowship
Awarded to doctoral students enrolled in the Department of Educational Leadership & Cultural Foundations.  Award may be renewable.

Robert & Lois Shiffler Scholarship
Awarded on the basis of academic achievement to full-time, NC residents who are majoring in a discipline in the School of Education.  For entering students, selection criteria will include a minimum 1100 SAT and evidence of extracurricular activities.  Award may be renewable provided recipients maintain a minimum 3.3 cumulative GPA.

Judy Blackwelder Talbert & Daniel Scott Talbert Teacher Education Scholarship
Awarded on the basis of academic achievement to NC residents in the School of Education who have demonstrated a commitment to teach.  Award is renewable provided recipients maintain a minimum cumulative 2.75 GPA.

Jacqueline W. & Jack H. Varner Scholarship
Awarded primarily on the basis of academic achievement to undergraduate, NC residents who have an interest in pursuing a course of study in elementary education.  Financial need will also be a consideration.    

Mary June Darden Ward Scholarship
Awarded on the basis of academic achievement to students in the School of Education who have demonstrated a commitment to teach.  Financial need will receive strong secondary consideration.

Joyce Daughtry White Scholarship
Awarded to students in the School of Education who demonstrate a commitment to teach, excellence in the classroom and leadership skills or potential.

Hw Wilson Scholarship
Awarded to students in the department of Library & Information Studies.

Crystal Dawn Wood Scholarship Fund
Awarded to juniors or seniors enrolled in the Educational Interpreter Program.  Award may be renewed for one additional year provided recipients maintain high academic standing. 

Annie Mciver Young Scholarship

Awarded on the basis of financial need to a senior student in the School of Education.
