Funds awarded through the School of Health and Human Performance (HHP) are administered by the individual academic departments. Students should contact their department of study if they have questions or need a program application.


Fund Eligible Students
Avren Scholarship
Awarded on the basis of academic achievement to full-time undergraduate students majoring in Recreation, Tourism and Hospitality Management.  Recipients must have a mimimum 3.5 cumulative GPA.

Dr. John T. & Mary Louise Lowe Burns Memorial Scholarship In Dance And Musical Theatre

Awarded to students majoring in Dance and/or Theatre.

Cheney Scholarship In Dance Choreography
Awarded to full-time undergraduate students majoring in Dance who have a special interest in or talent for choreography within the idiom of contemporary dance.  Recipients must have a minimum GPA of 3.2.

Cheshire Center Award 
Awarded on the basis of academic achievement to full-time students admitted to the CSD graduate program in speech-language pathology.  The award may be renewed for one year if the student maintains a 3.5 GPA.

Class Of 1958/Gail Hennis Scholarship
Awarded to an incoming student who graduated from Alexander Central High School in Taylorsville, North Carolina. Other students in the School of Health and Human Performance will be considered if none are available from Alexander Central High School.  Academic performance will be the primary consideration, financial need will be secondary.  Scholarship is renewable throughout the student's undergraduate career.

Mary Channing Coleman Award

Awarded to a senior candidate for graduation in the Department of Exercise and Sport Science.

Dorothy Davis Scholarship
Awarded to a junior majoring in Recreation, Tourism & Hospitality Management.  Recipients must have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA and must have been a full-time student for at least 2 semesters.

Melanie Feinstein Memorial Scholarship In Dance

Awarded on the basis of financial need to a student majoring in Dance with commitment to using dance in a context of human liberation and social justice.

June P. Galloway HHP Scholarship

Awarded primarily on the basis of teaching potential to a rising junior or senior enrolled in a teacher education sequence in the School of Health and Human Performance (award rotates between students of the Departments of Exercise and Sport Science and Dance). Recipients must have a minimum of 2.5 GPA. Financial need may also be considered.

Kimberly Renee Goodman Scholarship

Awarded on the basis of financial need to a student majoring in Dance, with preference given to students from North Carolina and further preference to those from Iredell County.

Priscilla Mullen Gowen Scholarship

Awarded to undergraduate student in the School of Health and Human Performance who have a 3.0 minimum GPA.  Awarded to students demonstrating leadership skills or potential and who are active in on-campus extracurricular activities.

Nancy Burton Hockett Scholarship

Awarded on the basis of academic achievement to undergraduate HHP majors who demonstrate involvement in extracurricular and/or service activities.

Kristina Larson Excellence in Choreography Award

Awarded to MFA students in Dance.

Marge Leonard Scholarship

Awarded to a rising sophomore, junior or senior enrolled in one the departments of the School of Health and Human Performance.  Recipients must demonstrate leadership ability and be in a program that focuses on developing teaching & interpersonal skills to be used in an educational setting.

Karen Lux Scholarship Fund

Awarded primarily on the basis of academic achievement to a rising sophomore, junior or senior who is majoring in any discipline in the School of Health and Human Performance.  Recipients must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and have demonstrated an interest in teaching and/or youth development programs in schools or the community.  Financial need may also be considered.

Rosemary McGee Scholarship
Awarded to a full-time rising sophomore, junior or senior in the School of Health and Human Performance, with preference given to a student majoring in Exercise and Sport Science.  Must have 3.65 minimum cumulative GPA. Leadership skills, community service and financial need will be secondary considerations.  Scholarship is renewable.

Physical Education Class 1959/Rosemary Mcgee Scholarship In Sports Medicine

Awarded on the basis of academic achievement to a rising senior, enrolled full-time, with a concentration in the Sports Medicine program in the Department of Exercise & Sport Science.  Recipients must have a minimum 3.25 cumulative GPA.

Virginia Moomaw Dance Scholarship

Awarded to students majoring in Dance.  Recipients must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and demonstrate reliability, enthusiasm, professionalism and strong potential for success in one or more of the following:  choreography, performance and/or teaching.

Dr. Ron G. Morrow Graduate Fellowship

Awarded on the basis of academic achievement to graduate students in the School of Health and Human Performance who have indicated an intention to study one or more of the following topics:  diversity in education (relating to sexual orientation, homophobia, ethnicity, etc.) and/or women's health and wellness and/or pedagogical innovation across the educational spectrum.  Preference will be given to NC residents and financial need may be a consideration.  Award is renewable.

P.E. Class Of 1975 Hielscher Teaching Scholarship

Awarded to a rising senior student, enrolled full-time, majoring in Exercise & Sport Science who plans to teach.  Preference will be given to students with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.

Peggy Pegram-Phoebe Baughan Barr Scholarship In Dance

Awarded to full-time undergraduate students majoring in Dance.  Recipients must have a minimum GPA of 3.2.

Quota Club Scholarship

Awarded annually on the basis of academic achievement to one undergraduate and one graduate student majoring in Communication Sciences & Disorders.  Recipients must be enrolled full-time and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0. 

Susan Stout Scholarship

Awarded to students majoring in the School of Health and Human Performance.

Nell A. Stallings Graduate Fellowship In Hhp

Awarded to an incoming graduate student applying to study in the School of Health and Human Performance.  Awarded is made based on outstanding academic qualifications as measured by GRE scores and GPA.  Applicants must be recommended by department head (or designee) and have participated in extracurricular activities in area of major interest.

Josephine L. Sutlive Scholarship In Dance Education

Awarded to entering or continuing students majoring in Dance or Dance Education, who are seeking teacher licensure in Dance Education (preferably K-12).  Recipients must be enrolled full-time.

Betsy Umstead Undergraduate Scholarship

Awarded to a rising junior or senior student, enrolled full-time, majoring in Exercise & Sport Science.  Recipients must have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA.  Preference will be given to students from NC who have financial need and who plan to teach.

University Speech & Hearing Scholarship

Awarded to students majoring in Communication Sciences and Disorders.
